From Poverty, and Abuse to a 6-Figure Income - 5 Key Things Single Moms Must Know!

I’m so excited to be here with you. I spent 16 years as a single mom, and during that time, I learned so much about myself. Now, I’m ready to share the things no one ever told me about being a single mom—like how to grow your career, deepen your relationship with God, see yourself through His eyes, and resolve conflicts. It’s about growing as a woman, not just as a single mom.

To kick off my podcast, I want to share five key things I wish someone had told me about being a single mom. I never expected to be single for so long. I imagined I’d remarry, have more kids, and build a big family. But, as you know, life doesn’t always go as planned. Now, you’re navigating this journey on your own. So how do you handle relationships, finances, loneliness, and everything else while growing your career?

That’s why I’m here. Think of me as your big sister. I’ve worked my way up in the corporate world, and even after stepping away, I became a highly successful leadership consultant, earning six figures a year. I’ll share how I built my career, bought my own house, and set myself up for success, all while raising my sons. It wasn’t easy, but I want to offer insights to help you succeed.

I didn’t grow up with privilege. In grade nine, my parents held me back for two years to help on the family farm. I skipped grade 10 and 11, and by the time I reached grade 12, I had to catch up quickly. When we finally moved to a place where I could attend school, my bed was just a mattress laid on an old door I found in the garage, resting on four cement blocks. Anyone who’s experienced poverty knows it sparks creativity. I’ve navigated the single mom journey mostly on my own, with little external support. I understand both the struggles and the rewards. Now, I want to share career insights, spiritual wisdom, and real talk from my own life, so you can approach your journey with confidence and peace.

Now, let’s talk about the five things I wish I had known as a single mom:

1. Perseverance is the mindset you need

The single mom journey can be long and difficult. You may not get remarried, or you might only be single for a short while. But perseverance is essential, not just for single moms but for life in general. With a mindset of hope, you can push through even the toughest times. Remember, you are not defined by your circumstances. With perseverance and faith, you will get through.

2. Cry out to God

There will be moments when you feel overwhelmed, when you don’t know how you’ll make it through. But when you cry out to God and trust Him with your children, your finances, and your future, He is faithful to provide. Trust that He knows what you need, even if it’s not what you want at that moment. God will meet you where you’re at.

3. You are more than just a single mom

Being a single mom is a part of who you are, but it doesn’t define you. Your identity is rooted in being a daughter of the Most High God. You are valuable, precious, and loved by Him. He has a plan for you beyond your circumstances. Understand who you are in God, and remember that you are worth more than you can even imagine.

4. You will have what you say

Be mindful of the words you speak over your life. In my own journey, I saw how speaking negative things into existence can harm you. But through God’s guidance, I’ve learned to cancel those negative words and speak life into my future. You can shape your reality by speaking faith, hope, and positivity over your journey.

5. Dream big and set goals

I came from nothing, but I set big goals for myself. I wanted to make $2,500 a day as a consultant, even when I was working a low-paying job. Through hard work, perseverance, and trust in God, I achieved that goal. No matter where you start, set your sights high, and believe that you can achieve greatness. Your dreams are possible.
